The Crest boys and girls traveled to Pleasanton on Saturday and while the girls bounced back from their end-of-tournament loss to Uniontown to win their first game this season, the boys stumbled down the stretch, losing their fourth game this year.
The Crest girls won 43-34 while the boys fell 46-39.
The Lady Lancers move up to 1-4 so far this season but no other stats were available for their game Tuesday.
The boys held either a tie or a lead all of the way until the fourth quarter. Thats when the Blu-Jays kicked it into gear and left the Lancers (1-4) in the dust.
Both teams were tied at six after the first quarter and Crest took a 16-15 lead heading into halftime.
That lead increased by two in the third quarter with the Lancers using a 14-12 effort to push their overall lead to 30-27.
Unfortunately, thats where things fell apart for the Lancers. A 19-9 Pleasanton fourth quarter allowed the Jays to blow past Crest down the stretch for the win.
At times we played very well. This was definitely a step in the right direction, Crest head coach Travis Hermreck said. It is somewhat disappointing because we didnt play a very smart fourth quarter and let one slip away. If we are playing well defensively and on the boards, there is a little more margin for error offensively. We arent to that point yet. There were a lot of positives tonight, however we just have to keep building on them and keep our heads up.
Senior Hayden Hermreck had 18 points in the game followed by 14 for junior Zach Beckmon, four for Ethan Prasko and three for senior Jacob Holloran.
The Lancers were outrebounded 41-28.
The Lancer teams will return home on Monday when they host St. Paul in their final game before winter break.
