HUMBOLDT — Crest High’s Lancers busted out to a 20-9 lead by the end of the first quarter Thursday. The Lancers maintained that lead in a 56-32 win over tournament host Humboldt High’s Cubs.
The Lancers (3-1) are 2-0 in Humboldt tournament play and take on Uniontown today at 5:30 in the final round.
The Cubs (0-3) are 0-2 in their tournament and finish the round-robin event tonight at 8:30 against Erie.
Crest built a 31-18 halftime lead. The Lancers outscored the Cubs 17-12 in the third and 8-2 in the fourth quarter.
Leading the way for the Lancers was Kyle Hammond with 30 points, including an 8-for-8 stint at the free-throw line. Jordan Morton added 11 points, hitting three three-pointers.
Crest sank 11 of 16 free throw attempts.
Humboldt was led by Trey Johnson with 10 points, three steals, three assists and three blocked shots.
Derrik McCall added nine points. Seth Nickell grabbed six rebounds.
The Cubs shot 31 percent, 10 of 32, from the field. They were 8 of 11 at the free-throw line. Humboldt had 15 rebounds and 17 turnovers.
