Iola High’s Mustangs may not be in the Southeast Kansas League next year but the football team is not done playing against SEK foes.

The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) released the new two-year football district assignments. The Mustangs landed in Kansas Class 4A District 6 along with Chanute, Fort Scott and Anderson County.

Three SEK teams appear on the Iola football schedule for 2012. Chanute and Fort Scott in district play and Coffeyville earlier in the season. Cherryvale is the other non-league contest for the Mustangs next year.

Anderson County is a member of Iola’s new league — the Pioneer League. The Mustangs have league games against Prairie View and Osawatomie, which along with Anderson County, are 4A schools. They also will face Wellsville and Central Heights, both Class 3A teams.

Humboldt High’s Cubs were placed in the Kansas Class 3A District 7. Their district opponents are Burlington, Eureka and Fredonia.

Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats, Uniontown High’s Eagles and Yates Center High’s Wildcats are in the Kansas Eight-Man Division I District 2. They are joined by Pleasanton, Marais Des Cygnes Valley and St. Paul.

Crest High’s Lancers and Southern Coffey County High’s Titans move into Kansas Eight-Man Division II District 3. Also in that district are Altoona-Midway, Chetopa, Elk Valley and Waverly.
