The Iola Register’s news and advertising teams earned top honors at the Kansas Press Association’s annual awards of excellence celebration last Friday in Hutchinson, winning sweepstakes awards in both divisions for an eighth consecutive year.
The Register also received the Frank and Mamie Boyd Community Service Award. The award committee lauded the Register’s “Writing Our Way Out” publications, a collaboration with Iola High School students funded through a grant from the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas.
Competing among Kansas newspapers, entries were judged by the Kentucky Press Association.
On the advertising side, graphic designer Kristi Kranker earned multiple awards, including second place for top graphic designer. Kranker has now placed first or second statewide four straight years. She works alongside marketing director Violeta Stauffer-Rodriguez.
In the news division, contributions by Richard Luken, Tim Stauffer, Sarah Haney, Jimmy Potts and Susan Lynn led to another strong showing.
