MANHATTAN — A number of area high-schoolers earned their state degrees during the annual Kansas FFA Convention May 27-29.

A state degree is the highest honor the Kansas FFA Association can bestow upon its members. In order to achieve the award, members must have received their Chapter FFA Degree, been an FFA member and agricultural education student for at least two years, and earned at least $2,000 or worked 600 hours in their Supervised Agricultural Experience program.

They also were required to give a six-minute speech about agriculture or FFA, participate in eight different leadership activities, earn a “C” average or better in high school and show a record of “outstanding leadership and community involvement.”

Iola HIgh School’s Tayten Salzwedel and Rohan Springer earned State FFA degrees, as did Marmaton Valley High School’s Hunter Doolittle and Yates Center High School’s Avery Gaulding and Jeremiah Jones.
