Athletes of the Month

With Turkey Day just two days away and December rapidly approaching, it is time to announce the athletes we are most thankful for during the month of November. These are November?s nominees for Allen County Area Athletes of the Month.

Josh Hull ? Towering over his opposition, the 6?6? Hull played a huge part in Humboldt?s run to the sectional round of the 2A state footballplayoffs. Hull featured on the offensive and defensive line, and even had the opportunity to carry the rock, earning one touchdown rushing. Hull?s talents haven?t gone unnoticed, as he paid a visit to Coach Les Miles and KU earlier in the month.

Malik Hardmon ? As a sophomore at Allen Community College, Hardmon is taking the next step in his game. The second-year star from Chicago is averaging 15.9 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. Although he may appear undersized, Hardmon makes up for his 6?4? frame by scoring with efficiency and hard work.

Kaster Trabuc ? As a freshman, Trabuc solidified himself as the number-three runner for the Iola Mustangs varsity cross country team. Trabuc represented the Mustangs in Wamego for the 4A state meet, placing 64th with a time of 18:28. Trabuc is flourishing now, and will be an Iola athlete to watch.

Courtney Crippen ? It hasn?t taken much time for the Jonesboro, Ark. native to make Iola feel like home. As a first-year student at ACC, Crippen has already cemented herself in the Lady Devil starting five. Through nine games, Crippen is averaging 11.1 points and 3.6 assists per contest.

Alayna Johnson ? As a senior, Johnson starred for the Lady Cubs on the hardwood as a setter, and has committed to take her talents to  Manhattan Christian next fall. Despite undergoing a back procedure early in the summer, Johnson recovered and helped the Lady Cubs reach the sub-state championship game.

Josie Plumlee ? Plumlee had her hands full this fall with running cross country and being a cheerleader. Plumlee most recently competed for the Iola Fillies at the state meet in Wamego, and finished 11th in Iola?s region meet in Chanute.

The poll is currently live and will remain open until midnight Thursday. Click here to vote. We?ll announce the winners Saturday in both our print and online editions.
