Kathryn I. (Rose) Tanner, 82, of Gas died Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Kansas City Hospice House.
She was born April 27, 1928, in Fort Scott, to Andrew J. and Veneta M. (Anderson) Rose. She grew up in Fort Scott.
On June 22, 1945, she married Lloyd M. Tanner. They moved to Iola on Aug. 5, 1955. He died in September of 1966.
She worked for 20 years for the Kansas State Board of Agriculture retiring in 1990. She also worked at Hall’s Food Mart, was hospitality hostess at Hardee’s until they closed, Country Mart, Heritage Care Home in Humboldt and Pump’n Pete’s Convenience Store in Iola. She bowled for more than 43 years on the Ladies Friday Night and Daylighters Leagues. She also enjoyed bingo and playing the piano.
Her memberships include Community of Christ Church where she served as pianist for several years, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post No. 6324 in LaHarpe and American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 0385 at Moran.
She is survived by two sons, Rick and his wife, Carla, and Eddie and his wife, Norma, all of Topeka; two daughters, Sharon Mazzoni, Wichita, and Susan Cook and her husband, Brad, Iola; a daughter-in-law, Rita Jo Tanner; a sister, Lois Henderson, Fort Scott; 14 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 14 stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and her poodle, Buddy.
She was preceded in death by a son, Larry L., sister, Jocelyn M. Rose, and two brothers, Andrew J. and Gerald T. Rose.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Community of Christ Church east of Iola. Gary Murphey will officiate. Burial will be in Centerville Cemetery south of Devon.
