INDEPENDENCE — The 72nd Annual Verdigris Valley Art Show opens Friday at the Independence Historical Museum and Art Center, 123 N. Eighth St., showcasing original works from artists across the region.
Artists will compete for several awards, including Best in Show and the People’s Choice Award. The exhibit features a variety of media, including drawings, acrylic and oil paintings, watercolors, mixed media pieces, and both two- and three-dimensional works.
Opening night festivities will include a public critique by this year’s judge, Ye Wang, professor of painting and drawing at Washburn University in Topeka. The critique and awards reception will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and is free and open to the public.
All entries will remain on display through June 18 at the museum and art center. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
