Bob and Beverly Johnson are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary Thursday, Nov. 20, in an unusual setting.
Beverly is recovering from extensive surgery at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City.
They were the children of Edward and Violet Johnson and of Lacy and Ione Mintz.
They both attended schools in Humboldt and graduated in 1961. They were married on Nov. 20, 1965, at Humboldt’s First Baptist Church.
Bob attended Pittsburg State University for three years and worked at the Pittsburg Sun before joining the Iola Register.
He concluded his 56 years at The Register in 2020.
Beverly studied cosmetology at Hays School of Beauty in Mission. She worked as a cosmetologist followed by several other jobs, including 19 years as a para-professional for USD257.
They are the parents of a daughter, Brenda Sue Lee, and a son, Robert E Johnson II; a son-in-law, Sean Lee and a daughter-in-law, Melanie Johnson. They have grandchildren, Noah Johnson, Alayna Johnson, Emma (Dagen) Goodner, Maddox Johnson, Hudson (Lan) Lee and Olivia Lee, as well as great- grandchildren Hannah Beverly Lee, and Ellie June Goodner.
A private ceremony featuring a cake was served in Beverly’s hospital room, where Bob has been a daily fixture.
