HUMBOLDT — Troublesome second and third quarters sank Humboldt High’s fortunes Tuesday.
The Cubs saw a 16-15 lead turn into a 13-point deficit by intermission against visiting Eureka.
The Tornadoes then turned on the jets in the third quarter to roll to an 83-57 victory.
The loss drops Humboldt to 7-6 on the year.
Humboldt’s girls found out hours before game time they would be idled for the night due to COVID-19 protocols.
In the boys contest, Eureka’s big second quarter put the Tornadoes on top 39-26. The lead grew to 62-41 by the end of the third quarter.
A trio of Humboldt players finished in double figures, led by Drew Wilhite’s 17 points, along with four rebounds. Trey Sommer had 12 points and five boards, while Drake Harrington notched 10 points. Levi McGowen had eight points. Gavin Page dished out three assists. Sommer had the team’s only steal.
