Members of the Allen County Wrestling club capped a busy weekend last week with tournaments on consecutive days.
On Feb. 16, the wrestlers traveled to the King of the Ring Tournament in Haysville.
Trenton Jones captured third place in his division, while T.J. Taylor and Seth Sanford took home fourth. Jeremy Ridge also wrestled.
“This was the toughest tournament of the season for our experienced wrestlers,” coach John Taylor said. “The competition we saw on the mats will be the same level that we see at the state tournament in March. It was a great opportunity to see what we need to work on for the qualifying series.”
On Sunday, a larger group traveled to Louisburg for a novice tournament.
Capturing first in their respective divisions were William Jay, Eli Adams and Jack Adams.
Second-place finishers were Curt Shannon, Korbin Cloud, Alejandro Vargas, Gage Scheibmeir and Clay Shannon.
Cole Mathews, Payton Houk, Brandon McKarnin, Casey McKarnin and Kole Rogers all finished third.
Taking fourth place were Creed Shannon and Logan Brown.
Tripp Chapman, Konner Larney, Ryan West and Cooper Riley all took home fifth place.
“We were very happy with the results from this tournament,” Taylor said. “Our beginning wrestlers showed a lot of improvement from the start of the season. Overall, I couldn’t be proud of these kids and they effort they gave this weekend.”
