YC, Crest teams fall in tourney

YATES CENTER — Both Yates Center High and Crest High’s squads continued tournament play Thursday.

The Wildcat girls fell to Cherryvale, 51-40, but still drew praise from head coach Abbie Collins.

“We may have lost, but the girls played pretty well,” Collins said. “They definitely showed improvement on both ends of the court.”

The game was nip-and-tuck until Cherryvale was able to pull away after intermission. The Chargers led 9-8 after one quarter and 19-17 at the break. The lead swelled to 35-28 after three. Cherryvale ended the game on a 16-12 run to seal the win.

Molly Proper and Addie Solander both scored 10 to lead Yates Center. Morgan Collins was next with nine, while Callyn Miller scored six. Liberty Cavender scored all four of her points after halftime. Grace Westerman scored one.

Mariah Monroy scored 23 for Cherryvale.

The Chargers led 19-7 after one quarter and 35-18 at the break. The Chargers extended their lead to 56-31 by the end of the third quarter.

Cash Cummings scored 16, while Sean Hurst and Jack King scored seven each for the Wildcats. Blake Audiss and Preston Hurst scored five and four, respectively. Carter Burton had two. Jayston Rice and Taven Smoot both had a single point.

CREST’S squads had to deal with Anderson County.

The Lancers lost, 55-26, while the Lady Lancers fell, 56-18.

Leading the way for Crest’s boys was Kobey Miller with 13 points, Tyson Hermreck with eight and Karter Miller with five. Hermreck also had six rebounds. Kobey Miller had five boards, while Stetson Setter had four rebounds. Hermreck and Kobey Miller also had blocked shots on defense.

Anderson County’s girls raced to a 22-5 lead over Crest, then stretched its lead to 40-13 by halftime and 51-16 after three.

Aubree Holloran once again was the top producer for the Lady Lancers with nine points, seven rebounds, three steals and a block. Haylee Beckmon scored four points with four rebounds. Lindsey Godderz scored three and McKenna Hammond had two points, with four steals.

Rayna Jasper scored 23 and Cali Foltz 11 for Anderson County.
