Yates Center’s Baker claims golfing medal

PARSONS — On a great fall day, Uniontown High’s Eagles and Yates Center High Wildcats competed in the Parsons High Invitational girls’ golf tournament Monday.
The Eagles ended up in sixth place, one stroke ahead of Yates Center, 245 to 246. Girard won the team title with a 204 total. Parsons and Caney Valley each had 211 for second and third, respectively.
Yates Center’s Emily Baker claimed the eighth-place individual medal. Baker shot a 51. Girard’s Timbrelee McNair carded a 44 for a four-stroke win as top medalist.
Becky Wendland finished with a 55 as Yates Center’s second highest finisher. Bailie Stuber had a 63 followed by Marana Buchanan’s 77 and Samie Hatch’s 88.
Uniontown was led by Emily Simpson who shot a 55. Right behind her were Veronica Harrison at 56 and Sabrena McAnulty at 57. Monica Ramsey shot a 77.
The Eagles and Wildcats go to Fredonia Thursday. Next Monday, Uniontown hosts its invitational, which Yates Center will play in, at Fort Scott’s Woodland Hills Golf Course.
Uniontown will also host  a Kansas Class 3-2-1A regional golf tournament Oct. 10 at Woodland Hills.
