Yates Center tops Crest

Yates Center's Wildcats brought home a 50-22 win over Crest in the season-opener for both teams Friday.

COLONY — Yates Center High got the 2021 season off on the right foot Friday.

Crest High still has some work to do.

Yates Center prevailed, 50-22, in their eight-man matchup.

“They were much improved, and they attacked all night long,” Lancer head coach Nick McAnulty said. “We did not match their physicality on either side of the ball.” We have a lot of work to get done before next Friday.”

Crest’s Holden Barker gave Crest a spark, rushing for 194 yards and two touchdowns, while Ethan Godderz rushed for 80 yards, while completing two passes for 49 yards and two interceptions.

Avery Blaufuss rushed for 28 yards and a score, while adding a 17-yard reception.

Ryan Golden added one catch for 32 yards.

Godderz paced the defense with eight tackles. Karter Miller and Blaufuss added five stops apiece.

Statistics for the Wildcats were unavailable.

Crest (0-1) travels to Marmaton Valley next Friday. Yates Center (1-0)  hosts Altoona-Midway.

We lost 22 to 50. They were much improved, and they attacked all night long.  We did not match their physicality on either side of the ball.  We have a lot of work to get done before next Friday.
