Yates Center thrashes Marmaton Valley

MORAN — Yates Center baseball went to Marmaton Valley and came away with two blowout wins over their Three Rivers League-foe. 

Yates Center won game one 17-0 in five innings and game two 20-0 in three. 

In game one, the Wildcats got out to a quick 10-0 start in the first two innings, The third and fourth went by scoreless before Yates Center put up seven more runs in the top of the fifth to close out the win. 

Starter Kendrick Jones got the win by putting up three hitless innings with one walk and six strikeouts. Tyton Smoot came in for the final two innings and gave up three walks and two hits with two strikeouts. 

Jones also had a four-hit performance from the plate, driving in five of Yates Center’s runs. 

Asher Sievers, Smoot, Jaymond Rice and Connor Griffith each had two hits. 

Yates Center had five steals. 

In game two, Yates Center scored 13 runs in the first inning and then seven more in the second to lead to the third inning run-rule. 

Caden Graham threw three hitless innings, allowing just two walks with three strikeouts. 

Graham also had four hits to lead all Wildcats. 

Rice had three hits while Nolan Jones, Rocky Petit, Joey Smith, Sievers and Jones each had two. 

Both teams will be back in action on Thursday. 

Yates Center will travel to St. Paul and Marmaton Valley will play at Jayhawk-Linn.
