Yates Center senior catcher Kaiden Rutherford connects with a pitch during a game against Unionville earlier this season. Rutherford tied junior Kage Beck for the team lead in RBIs in the opener of Monday’s doubleheader against Northeast.

The Yates Center Wildcats’ losing streak extended to five games following Monday’s sweep by the Northeast Vikings.

Although the Wildcats had an uptick in hits from their last doubleheader against Central Heights, the result was the same as Yates Center fell 14-4 and 13-5.

Senior catcher Kaiden Rutherford put the Wildcats on the scoreboard with a first-inning RBI double, but Northeast responded with a four runs, then added another two runs in the second inning to take control.

An RBI single by sophomore first baseman Braxton Rutherford, sophomore third baseman Adrian Mullens scoring on a wild pitch and a bases-loaded walk cut into the Vikings’ lead.

However, a seven-run sixth inning mercy-ruled Yates Center.

Yates Center High School junior pitcher Kage Beck throws a strike while facing Unionville earlier this season.

Sophomore pitcher Nolan Lampe took the loss with a strikeout over two innings. While coming on in relief, junior Blake Morrison tallied a team-leading three strikeouts, but also gave up three runs.

Although having a bit more success in the batter’s box in the finale, a Vikings’ four-run second inning and five runs in the sixth made the difference.

Morrison briefly gave Yates Center the lead with an RBI single. Following the second inning, the Wildcats played from behind with runs on a bases-loaded walk, a fourth-inning RBI double by sophomore Evan McVey and a balk with a Wildcat runner on third, but it was not enough for Yates Center to climb back into contention.

Junior Kage Beck took the loss with two strikeouts over 2⅔ innings with four walks.
