YATES CENTER — Marmaton Valley High, Humboldt High and Southern Coffey County High track teams collected hardware at Tuesday’s Yates Center High Invitational track meet.
All three area schools had gold-medal performances. Host Yates Center’s results were not available because of an illness of a coach.
Marmaton Valley’s Zach Louk captured gold in both the distance races. He won the 1600-meter race in 4 minutes, 58 seconds and took the gold in the 3200 meters in 11:09.97.
The Wildcat boys also had a first-place finish by Carlos Gonzales in the triple jump with a winning leap of 39 feet, 9 1/4 inches. Teammate Chase Dudley placed fourth in 38’7 3/4”.
Zack English ran third in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 45.72 seconds. Gonzales took the bronze medal in the 200-meter dash in 24.38 seconds. English was sixth in the long jump at 16’8 1/2” and Kaleb Stroud placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 38’5”.
Marmaton Valley’s 4×400-meter relay team of Lucas Hamlin, Gonzales, English and Louk finished third in 3:50. Hamlin combined with Dudley, Garrett Booth and Gonzales for fourth in the 4×100-meter relay in 48.52 seconds.
The Wildcats’ 4×800-meter relay team of P. Wilson, W. Bolinger, T. Johnson and M. Miller placed sixth in 10:33.31.
Ashtynn Louk claimed the silver medal in the girls’ 1600-meter run in 6:35.34. D. Hobbs placed third in the 800-meter run in 2:56.63 and Tessa Olson took fifth in the 400-meter dash in 1:10.3.
Hobbs, M. Hamlin, Olson and Louk combined to place sixth in the 4×400-meter relay race in 5:32.97. Olson took fifth in the long jump with 12’6”.
HUMBOLDT’S Brook Boatwright won the girls’ discus gold medal with a throw of 88’4”. Darrah Tinkler was the silver medalist in the javelin with a throw of 72’5”.
Shayli Ellis was a double bronze-medal winner for the Lady Cubs. Ellis was third in the long jump with a leap of 13’11 1/4”. She was third in the 100-meter high hurdles in 18.57 seconds and placed fifth in the 100-meter dash in 14.34 seconds.
Kolbyn Allen finished fourth in the 800-meter run in 3:01.5. Allen combined with Tinkler, Boatwrigth and Kristin Todd for a bronze medal in the 4×800-meter relay in 12:51. The Lady Cubs’ 4×100-meter relay team of Allen, Boatwright, Tinkler and Ellis was fifth.
Hayden Boring turned in a bronze-medal performance in the boys’ long jump, 18’1”, for the Cubs. Ethan Bartlett finished fourth at 17’11”. Zack Osborn placed fifth in the discus with a toss of 103’4 1/2”.
Boring placed fifth in the 400-meter dash in 58.5 seconds. Andrew Keazer finished sixth in the 3200-meter run in 13:47.
