Yates Center, Humboldt golfers hit the course

FREDONIA — Yates Center High’s Wildcats finished sixth at Tuesday’s Fredonia High’s Invitational golf tournament.

Humboldt High’s Robbie Sellman was the fourth-place medalist with an 82 (40-42). Olpe’s Chase Coble won the tournament with a 79.

Fredonia took the team title with a 340 and Olpe was second at 343. Yates Center finished with a 480 as a team.

Dylan Bauman led the Wildcats with a 12th-place finish with an 89 (43-46). Nick Schemper carded a 109 (57-52) and teammates Richie Mentzer (70-71) and Mason Hartwig (73-68) shot 141.

Humboldt’s Tye Taylor finished with a 114 (58-56) and Chance Menzie shot a 117 (55-52).

ON THURSDAY, Yates Center and Marmaton Valley’s junior varsity golfers played in the Jayhawk-Linn High tournament in Mound City. The nine-hole event was at Sugar Valley Golf Course.

Mentzer shot a 59 for Yates Center and Hartwig had a 61. Yates Center head coach Kevin Barnes said both of his golfers had a pretty good day on a tough Sugar Valley course.

Marmaton Valley’s Mike Swift Plaschka finished with a 54. Tristan Dickerson shot a 62 followed by Tommy Zibung with a 69 and Austin Pinkerton at 73.
