EUREKA — Yates Center High’s athletes remained on track, literally, for another special season while earning plenty of medals and personal-best performances Thursday at the Eureka Invitational.
The Wildcat boys took third overall, despite missing out on points in a pair of missteps in relay races, while the Yates Center girls took fifth.
“I really can’t say enough about our kids and what they have accomplished so far,” Wildcat track coach Dan Berg said. “They need to keep working to be ready for the big meets in May.”
Among the highlights:
The Holloway siblings were golden in several events.
Mindi Holloway was a three-time gold medalist, winning the long jump at 15 feet, 1 inch, the 800-meter run at 2 minutes, 37 seconds and the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 17.62 seconds.
The Wildcat boys were paced by Brett Holloway’s gold in the 1600-meter run at 5:05 and the 3200-meter run at 11:01.
Meanwhile, Brett Holloway teamed with Hayden Splechter, Mikey Bruner and Drake Busteed to win the 4×800-meter relay with a time of 9:14.
Drake Busteed won the 400-meter dash in 55 seconds and the 800 at 2:08, while Myles Dice set a personal mark of 6’4” in the high jump to take second.

The 4×100 relay team was disqualified because of a broken baton, while Dice was tripped in the 4×400 relay and did not finish.
“They would have added to our overall score,” Berg said.
THE WILDCAT girls finished fifth with 57 points.
