PEABODY — Yates Center High’s Wildcats came within one stroke of beating Peabody-Burns High on its own golf course Tuesday. The Wildcats finished second with a score of 166 to the Warriors’ 165.
On a sand greens course, the Wildcats proved to be tough. Jake Morrison had a 39 for the nine-hole tournament and took top medalist honors.
Paul Stockebrand and Blake Francis each shot a 42. They were sixth and seventh medalists, re-spectively. Dylan Bauman was ninth medalist with a 43.
“I’m very proud of the guys. I think it came down to club selection and Peabody-Burns’ golfers had the advantage knowing where they were at yardage wise,” said Kevin Barnes, YCHS golf coach.
Barnes said Peabody is going to grass greens on its course after this year. He said it was good to see how the Wildcats compared to the other sand green players.
Riley County No. 1 shot a 195 followed by Chase County at 216 and Riley County No. 2 at 242.
