Yates Center golfer wins UHS tournament

FORT SCOTT —  Yates Center High’s Nick Schemper was top medalist at Thursday’s Uniontown High Invitational varsity golf tournament.

Schemper won by four strokes with an 80 for the 18-hole tournament. He was the only player in the event for Yates Center.

Humboldt High’s Robbie Sellman shot an 84 and finished third. Tye Taylor carded a 99 and Chance Menzie shot a 104 as the other Cub golfers in the tournament.

Jayhawk-Linn won the team title with 363 and Erie was second with 368. Uniontown High’s Eagles placed fourth with a 404 followed by Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats in fifth at 423.

“It would have been nice to medal as a team at our home meet. With four of our five kids shooting personal-best for the season, I have to be happy,” said Jason Tourtillott, Eagle golf coach.

Brenden Wood shot a 96 and was 15th to lead Uniontown. Chance Hoener and Zach Travis each came in with 101s. 

Seth Sympson carded a 106 and Drew George had a 127.

Marmaton Valley was paced by Mike Swift with a 99. Joey Jefferis shot a 105 followed by Lane Hamm at 107. Anthony Tucker shot a 112 and Austin Pinkerton finished at 114.

Uniontown and Marmaton Valley play in Monday’s Three Rivers League tournament in Pleasanton.

Yates Center and Humboldt compete in the Tri-Valley League tournament Monday at Neodesha.
