EUREKA – Yates Center High Wildcat girls’ basketball team lost its season opener Friday night on the road to the Eureka High Tornadoes.
The Wildcats were outscored in all but one period. During the third, both teams managed 10 points.
Abbie Collins, Wildcat head coach, said the girls played well but inexperience got the best of them.
“Every time we’d get close we’d get sped up and have too many turnovers,” she said. The Wildcats gave the ball back to the Tornados 23 times throughout the matchup.
The Wildcats couldn’t maintain possession of the ball when they needed to most, Collins said.
“We didn’t rebound very well,” she said.
Offensive leaders for the Wildcats were sophomore Bailie Chambers with 12 points and junior Emily Baker with eight. Chambers had 14 rebounds.
