MORAN — The Yates Center High softball team dominated Marmaton Valley Thursday in a two-game sweep.
The Wildcats won 19-0 and 24-1. Molly Proper scored a team-high eight runs between the two games and Kinley Morrison scored another six runs. Proper and Morrison also impressed in the pitcher’s circle.
Game one
Yates Center’s Morrison, Proper and Emma Grogg led off the lineup by each scoring followed by Callyn Miller and Lauren McConaghie scoring two more runs for a 5-0 first inning.
The floodgates opened again in the third inning when Miller, McConaghie, Izzy Lewis and Peyton Petit all came around to score for the 9-0 advantage. Proper then got on as well in the third and scored for the 10-0 lead heading to the fourth.
The Wildcats then scored nine more runs through the final two innings beginning with Petit and followed up by Morrison, Grogg and Westerman for the 14-0 lead. Five more Yates Center runs in the fifth sealed the 19-0 victory.
Proper impressed in the circle where she sat down the first nine batters before allowing her first base runner in the fourth inning. Proper allowed only three base runners, all came in the final two innings.
Game two
It was much of the same story in game two. The Wildcats laid 24 runs on the home Marmaton Valley team for a lopsided final. Every single one of Yates Center’s lineup scored and Proper scored a team-high five runs.
Morrison, Proper, Westerman and Miller scored in the first inning for the 4-0 lead. In the second inning, Morrison, Proper, Grogg, Westerman, Miller, Wylee Schaffer and Kamdyn Trahan all scored for the big 11-0 lead.
The Yates Center bats made it easy on their pitcher. Morrison tossed only three innings and allowed only four base runners. Morrison also struck out five Marmaton Valley batters of the nine outs she recorded.
By the conclusion of the second inning, Yates Center was ahead 20-0. Marmaton Valley’s Payton Scharff started in the pitcher’s circle and was tagged with all of the damage.
Proper scored a team-high five runs for Yates Center while Morrison, Grogg, Westerman, Miller and Trahan each scored three runs.
Yates Center hosts Eureka next Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Marmaton Valley hosts Oswego the same day at 4:30 p.m.
