Yates Center duo tops field

Wet or dry, windy or calm, hot or cold — it matters nothing to Yates Center golf standouts Easton Reynolds and Jack King, who took the top two spots in a pair of tournaments this week in vastly different weather conditions.

SEDAN — Yates Center High’s golf team had day of firsts Thursday.

Led by standouts Easton Reynolds and Jack King, the Wildcats were able to field a full team of four golfers for the first time in a while at the Sedan Invitational.

It also marked the first time the Wildcats were able to play in ideal weather, with temperatures in the low 70s with calm wind and bright sunshine.

“It was awesome,” head coach Karl Hamm said. “Finally, we were able to play on a dry course without a bunch of wind. And we finally got to play on a day that wasn’t 42 degrees.”

It also led to a couple of other significant firsts on the day.

Reynolds carded a 74 to take first place individually. King was his nearest pursuer, shooting a 78 for second.

The dynamic duo led to Yates Center’s first-place medal as a team. Yates Center’s team score of 362 strokes was six shots better than Erie’s 368.

Others golfing on the day were Collin Randall, who earned a 10th-place medal with his 93. Zeno Jimenez took 24th, carding a 117.

THURSDAY capped a successful week on the links for Reynolds and King, who also took home the top two scores of the day Tuesday in Pittsburg at the SMC Invitational.

Reynolds won with a round of 77, two strokes clear of King’s 79.

Yates Center is back in action Tuesday at Allen County Country Club in Iola, for the Humboldt Invitational.
