Yates Center baseball earned a road split on Thursday when they traveled to West Elk.
The Wildcats won the first game 15-1 before falling in game two 10-7. Yates Center moves to 3-5 overall with the split.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 9-0 lead in game one after scoring two in the first, four in the second and three in the third.
After a scoreless fourth, the Patriots jabbed back with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Yates Center ended the game with six runs in the top of the sixth which triggered a six-inning run-rule after the end of the sixth.
Asher Sievers earned the one-run win, allowing just three hits and a walk and six strikeouts. Jayhawk-Linns one run was scored on a solo home run.
Joey Smith had a four-hit day and Nolan Jones, Caden Graham, Connor Griffith and Kendrick Jones each had two hits.
The Wildcats had an astounding 25 steals in the win.
West Elk changed its fortunes quickly in game two, jumping out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
Yates Center scratched in a run in the top of the second and West Elk responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to push their lead to 5-1.
Two runs in the top of the fifth for the Wildcats and a run in the bottom of the fifth for the Patriots brought the games point total to 6-3 heading into the sixth.
The Wildcats bats continued to heat up with a four-run top of the sixth to take their first lead of the game. They didnt have it for long though as West Elk scored four runs of their own to go back up three, a lead that they held until the end of the game.
Six errors throughout the game killed Yates Center.
Tyton Smoot got the start and allowed five runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
Jaymond Rice had three hits and Smoot had two.
The Wildcats will travel to Crest on Monday before traveling to Pleasanton on Thursday.
