LEBO—The 2011-2012 regular season didn’t end gracefully for Marmaton Valley High’s boys’ basketball team. The Wildcats got thumped on the road by Lebo High’s Wolves Tuesday night 68-32.
Marmaton Valley takes a 7-13 record into the Uniontown High-hosted Class 2A substate tournament next week.
Turnovers and fouls plagued the Wildcats early against the Wolves in the regular season finale. With 10 team fouls on Marmaton Valley in the first quarter, playing aggressively became a liability, said Denny Lasley, Wildcat coach.
The scoreboard showed it. The Wolves outscored the Wildcats 46-13 in the first half.
Though Marmaton Valley didn’t let Lebo add much more to the lead in the final 16 minutes of play, the damage was done.
“At this point in the season if you turn the ball over like that it’s going to hurt you,” said Lasley, referring to the team’s 18 turnovers.
Standouts for the Wildcats were Cole Becker with nine points and three assists and Zach Louk with seven points. Nathan Smart and Lucas Hamlin each had four rebounds for Marmaton Valley.
Lebo’s Trevor White led all players with 18 points.
MARMATON VALLEY’S girls lost 55-23 to the Lebo girls. They were down 29-10 at halftime.
Kailey Boyd fired in 15 points for the Wildcats. Marmaton Valley finished 2-18 in the regular season.
