Wildcats win VB thriller

MORAN — Marmaton Valley High’s volleyball team went 2-1 on the day Tuesday, with a thrilling finale to send fans home happy.
The Wildcats won in straight sets over Jayhawk-Linn in a pair of nailbiters, 25-23, 27-25.
“It was pretty intense,” head coach Terra Kegler said.
In other action, the Wildcats fell to Oswego, 25-22, 25-14, and downed Pleasanton, 25-23, 25-11.
“We played well against Pleasanton, but exceptionally against Jayhawk,” Kegler said. “The girls stepped it up and finished. I am so proud of them. They worked together and deserved the win. Jayhawk is a very good team.”
In the win over the Jayhawks, Mackenzie Tynon had seven points, six kills and three blocks. Kaitlin Ensminger added five kills and Kyla Drake had five points.
In the loss to Oswego, Tynon and Tapanga Turner led the way with eight and four kills, respectively.
Ensminger racked up 17 points in the win over Pleasanton. Tynon had seven kills and three blocks. Drake had nine points and Emily Meiwes had four kills.

THE WILDCATS also won a pair of junior varsity matches, 25-10, 25-12 over Oswego and 25-14, 25-20 over Pleasanton.
“When you play hard, have continuous teamwork and communicate, you win,” JV coach Jamie Stodgell said. “That is what we had tonight.”
Kenzie Harrison had 25 points, while Tessa Olson had 14 points and 16 kills. Shauna Knight had 10 points, Tanna Lutz 10 points and four kills, Misty Storrer four points and eight kills, and Alex Thomas four points and a kill.
