Wildcats win own JV golf tourney

Marmaton Valley High hosted a junior varsity golf tournament at Iola’s Cedarbrook Golf Course on Thursday.

The Wildcats won the event with a team score of 183. Yates Center placed sixth with a 252.

Humboldt’s Robbie Sellman was the top medalist with a 39 for the nine-hole event. Marmaton Valley’s Chance Stevenson and Austin Pinkerton both shot 43s and finished second and third, respectively.

Mike Swift of Marmaton Valley carded a 46 to take the fifth-place medal. Other scores for Marmaton Valley were: Lane Hamm, 51, Joey Jefferis, 55 and Mitch Covey, 62.

Humboldt only had three golfers in the tournament. Tye Taylor earned the sixth-place medal with a 47. Chance Menzie shot a 51.

Yates Center was led by Richie Mentzer and Reid Brant as both finished with a 58. Mason Hartwig shot a 66 followed by Jaden Knoblock with a 70 and Trevor Burright with a 72.
