BRONSON — An eight-run seventh inning boosted the visiting Yates Center High Wildcats to a 20-5 win over Uniontown High’s Eagles Tuesday.
The Wildcats and Eagles each posted a win the season-opening doubleheader for both teams. Uniontown won the second game, which was shortened because of darkness, 5-4.
“We played pretty well in the first game,” said Kyle Stanley, Yates Center head baseball coach.
“In the second game, we didn’t stay hot at the plate until late in the game. Then it was too late because Uniontown’s lights weren’t working and they called the game when we were at-bat in the top of the sixth.”
Dalton Smith pitched five innings, allowing one run in the first game. He struck out one and walked one.
Devin Gregg came on in relief, pitching two innings and walking five.
Smith was 4-for-4 at the plate with a two-run home run and three singles. Austin Knoblock had a solo home run and a double. Thomas Adams had two singles and a double.
Andrew Weber connected for a single and a double. Cody Green hit two singles. Garrison Hall singled. Smith and Adams each drove in four runs.
Green was the losing pitcher for Yates Center in the second game. He walked two and had four strikeouts.
Smith had a single and a double for the Wildcats. Knoblock and Cassidy George each had two singles. Hitting a single each were Green, Weber, Derek Shaw, Hall and Adams.
There was no report from Uniontown by press time.
Yates Center plays at home Thursday in a Tri-Valley League doubleheader with Eureka.
Uniontown goes to Oswego April 8.
