YATES CENTER — Uniontown High head coach Chris Woods said Tuesday’s opening doubleheader loss was a learning tool for his Eagle players.
“It was cold and messy but I saw a lot of positive things in the two games. We can learn from these games and build on it,” Woods said after the Eagles lost 12-10 and 17-7 to host Yates Center High’s Wildcats.
The two teams had a slugfest to start with going seven innings. Uniontown rallied from a 11-4 deficit to get within two by the end of the game. The Eagles scored twice in the first, third and sixth innings and had a four-run seventh.
Tyler Hall went 51⁄3 innings for the Eagles, giving up 11 runs on four hits and seven walks. He struck out five. Jake Dawson pitched 12⁄3 innings and allowed one run on one hit, striking out three.
Jordan Woods hit a double and a two-run home run, which came in the third inning for Uniontown. Cameron Jackson had two singles.
Also for Uniontown in the first game, Max Labbe doubled. Ty Clayton, An-thony Myers, Dawson and Mitch Newman each had a single. Woods drove in three runs and Newman had two RBIs.
Yates Center used a nine-run third to blow open a 1-1 game. The Eagles had just tied the game in the top of the third.
Dawson started the game for Uniontown. He pitched two innings and was charged with six runs on three hits, five walks and one hit batter. He struck out two. Woods, Myers and Jackson took turns on the mound the rest of the game.
Uniontown narrowed the gap to 12-7 with two runs in the sixth. Yates Center closed the door for a 10-run rule win by scoring five times in its half of the sixth.
Woods had a single and a double for the Eagles plus stole two bases. Jackson doubled. Labbe and Myers had a single apiece.
No information was reported to the Register on individuals for Yates Center.
Uniontown (0-2) hosted St. Paul in Three Rivers League play today at Bronson.
