BUFFALO — The Yates Center Wildcat softball team was not only able to sweep Altoona-Midway on Thursday, but they also no-hit the Jets in both games.
Senior Emily Proper had the first crack at the Jet lineup and threw three no-hit innings with six strikeouts and two walks in the Wildcats 20-1 victory.
The Wildcats scored their 20 runs on just four hits as Altoona-Midway’s starter walked 15 batters in just two innings.
In the second game, it was the freshman’s turn. Maddie Collins also threw three innings and no-hit the Jets with one walk and six strikeouts in the 17-0 win.
Again, the Wildcat offense was aided by the lack of control by Jets’ pitching with 10 walks.

The Yates Center bats were strong early against West Elk as they muscled out 15 hits in a 12-5 game one victory on Thursday.
Senior Gavin Dillow led the way with four hits while senior Mikey Bruner was 3-for-3 and sophomore Aaron King had three hits of his own.
Dillow earned the win on the mound by pitching four innings and striking out six while allowing only one run.
In game two, the Wildcats were unable to find that offensive traction and were shut out in the first six innings against West Elk.
Yates Center squeezed across two runs in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough as they fell 4-2.
