High School Baseball: Marmaton Valley and Crest
Marmaton Valley and Crest squared off in Moran on Thursday.
The Wildcats got the sweep, winning game one 13-2 in five innings and game two 30-5 in three innings.
The Wildcats move to 4-4 this season while the Lancers remain winless so far this season.
The Wildcats got off to a big 7-0 lead in the first inning but Crest responded with a run in the bottom of the second.
Marmaton Valley scored two more runs in the top of the third and the Lancers scored another run in the bottom of the third. No one scored in the fourth and then the Wildcats finished things off with four runs in the top of the fifth.
Xavier Bauer earned the win, allowing two runs (one earned) on four walks.
Xavier did a good job pitching, Marmaton Valley head coach Derek Scharff said. He needs to cut down the walks but had a good outing for his first start of the year.
The Wildcats recorded only four hits in the game but they were walked 14 times and hit by the pitcher twice.
Bauer drilled two doubles, with a walk and two RBIs.
We didnt really light it up batting and Crest struggled to throw strikes, Scharff said. We had a lot of guys walk to get on base and then we would get a hit here and there to clear the bases. Crest had some opportunities to minimize the damage but couldnt make a play.
Crest starter Evan Bain earned the loss, allowing nine runs in three innings.
Game two was over in a flash.
The Wildcats belted 22 runs in the first inning compared to just two for Crest.
The Wildcats added eight more in the bottom of the inning after Crest brought home three in the top.
The Lancers didnt score in the third and the game was over.
