HOWARD — Yates Center High’s boys had a big problem with West Elk High’s offensive rebounding and an even bigger problem with the Patriots’ Ty Roebuck.
Roebuck poured in 29 points as West Elk handed Yates Center its third loss of the season, 50-43.
“We pretty much got outplayed on both ends of the floor,” Yates Center head coach Jason Weilert said. “They got a lot of offensive rebounds, which led to second-chance points, and they played a slower tempo than we were used to. We tried to force some things and those led to turnovers.”
The game was tightly fought until West Elk closed the proceedings with an 18-10 run. Up to then, Yates Center led 12-11 after one quarter and 25-23 at the break. West Elk cut the gap to a single point, 33-32 before its fourth-quarter outburst.
Paul Stockebrand scored 16 points and had seven rebounds to lead Yates Center. Dalton Smith added nine points.
Yates Center travels to Burlington Friday.
