Wildcats fall in road tilt

Marmaton Valley could not come back from an early deficit, falling 62-51 to Uniontown Tuesday in the team's first game back from the winter break.

UNIONTOWN — Marmaton Valley High struggled defensively early and late Tuesday.

Host Uniontown ripped the nets for 23 first-quarter points. And then, after Marmaton Valley clawed back to within two in the second half, the Eagles scored 18 more in the final period to win 62-51.

Marmaton Valley (1-4) travels to Oswego Friday.

The Eagles led 34-27 at the break before Marmaton Valley — in its first game back from the winter break — pulled to within 42-40 after three quarters.

But the Eagles’ Colter Powell proved to be too much to handle down the stretch. He scored 10 of his 16 points in the final period.

Brayden Lawson led the Wildcats with 17 points, followed by Jaedon Granere with 10 and Chase Smith with seven.

Powell’s 16 led four Eagles in double figures. Dredyn Marlow scored 14, Brycen Stewart 12 and Byron Fry 10.

Uniontown won the JV game 60-11. Tod Stevenson scored four, Brevyn Campbell three, and Kele Michael and Cooper Scharff had two apiece.
