MORAN — The Marmaton Valley High baseball team dropped a pair of home games against Uniontown Thursday.
The Wildcats (1-3) struggled with their pitching and defense. Uniontown scored 11 runs in the first inning of game one of a 16-6 win. The Eagles capped the sweep with an 8-5 victory in the nightcap.
Game one
Marmaton Valley head coach Adam Borth went with Tyler Lord to start on the mound in the opener. He surrendered eight runs. Dominic Smith came on in relief, surrendering three more runs, before Kason Becker pitched the second inning.
The Eagles scored one more run in the third and fourth innings each before Uniontown brought home two runs in the fifth to make it a 12-run game, 16-4.
The Wildcats drove in two runs in the sixth on top of their two runs in the third and fourth innings.
Kason Becker, Dylan Drake, Wyatt Ard, Brevyn Campbell and Lord each recorded hits for the Wildcats. Garrett Morrison, Lord, Ard, Campbell and Smith each scored runs.
Game two
Things looked better in the nightcap, at least at the start, for the hometown Wildcats.
Marmaton Valley scored four runs in the bottom of the first.
Lord and Drake reached base in the first two at bats before Ard and Campbell also reached base on a single and hit by pitch, respectively. Uniontown pitcher Lucas Snyder was pulled in the first inning for relief pitcher Treden Buckman.
It didn’t last though, as the Eagles erupted late.
Uniontown’s late game runs came from Tyson Deibert, Kane Shepard and Marlow reaching base on walks and later scoring in the fifth and sixth innings. The Eagles then scored four more runs in the top of the seventh for the 8-5 victory.
Marmaton Valley had 11 hits, led by Morrison, Ard, Smith and Lord’s two hits apiece.
The Wildcats play at Southeast on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
