Wildcats are TRL champs

PLEASANTON — Winning all three relay races plus six individual events, Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats won the 2010 Three Rivers League boys’ championship by a landslide.
Marmaton Valley piled up 167 points to win the boys’ division Thursday at the TRL meet hosted by Pleasanton High School. Oswego was second with 131 points and Pleasanton was third at 115.5.
Crest High’s Lancers were fourth with 79 points. Uniontown High’s Eagles took fifth with 69.5 points.
“Our team has had this goal of winning a league title since the first day of practice,” said Jamie Stodgell, MVHS head track coach. “Knowing it would take everyone to do their part to accomplish this goal, the guys did it.”
In the TRL meet, six medals are awarded but points are scored through eight places. Marmaton Valley used points from second through eight to build its lead. It didn’t hurt winning nine events.
The Wildcat boys have not won a track team championship since 1996.
Kurtis LaRue defended his 300-meter intermediate hurdle title by winning the race in 45.22 seconds. He also claimed the gold medal in the 110-meter high hurdles in 17.61 seconds.
Shawn Storrer was fourth in the 300 hurdles in 48.17 seconds. Chase Dudley was eighth in 53.21 seconds.
Zack Louk won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 15.24 seconds with Marcus Miller in fifth at 2:32.11. Louk was the 1600-meter run champion in 4:55.56.
In the 3200-meter run, Louk was edged out by Waylon Pike of Chetopa. Pike won in 11:09.27 with Louk in second at 11:09.76. Miller placed fifth in 13.18.
Tanner McNutt won the 400-meter dash in 53.55 seconds. He also was the high jump champion, clearing the bar at 5 feet, 8 inches.
McNutt took third in the 100-meter dash in 12.03 and Skyler Houk was seventh in 12.8. In the 200-meter dash, Daylen Houk placed fifth in 25.62 and S. Houk was seventh in 27.22.
The Wildcats’ 4×100-meter  relay team of Carlos Gonzales, D. Houk, S. Houk and LaRue won in 48.04 seconds. The 4×800-meter relay team of Louk, Gonzales, Lucas Hamlin and Storrer turned in a winning time of 9:33.73.
In the final event of the night, the Wildcats’  4×400-meter relay team of D. Houk, Storrer, Gonzales and McNutt claimed gold. Their time was 3:49.30.
LaRue was second in the long jump at 19’ 21⁄2” with teammates D. Houk in fourth at 18’81⁄2” and Hamlin in eighth at 16’41⁄2”. Dudley placed second in the triple jump at 36’4”and Gonzales was third at 35’9.
Storrer placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 145’7” and Josh Kale was eighth at 123’9.
Ryan Stephens took fifth in the shot put with a throw of 38’41⁄2”. Kaleb Stroud was seventh at 37’ 51⁄2” and Kale was eighth at 36’41⁄2”.

CREST HIGH’S Dakota Ramsey repeated as Three Rivers League champion in the javelin. Ramsey won with a throw of 160’3” with teammate Thomas Dietrich in second at 154’2”. Jordan Morton had a personal-best throw of 138’2” for fifth.
Ramsey finished second in the discus with a toss of 123’10”. Jake Tinsley was seventh at 109’6”. In the shot put, Ramsey was third at 39’91⁄2” and Tinsley was sixth at 37’7”.
Morton finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 34’7”. Trevor Holman was sixth at 33’5”.
On the track, Holman ran second in the 800-meter run in 2:19.01. David Womelsdorf was fifth in the 1600-meter run in 5:29.66.
Morton and Dietrich were sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 400-meter dash in 1:01.35 and 1:01.70.
Holman and Womelsdorf combined with Dustin Davis-Jones and Chris Brallier to take second in the 4×800-meter relay race in 9:37.88. The Lancers’ 4×400-meter relay team of Morton, Womelsdorf, Holman and Dietrich was fourth in 4:03.75.

UNIONTOWN HIGH’S
Ben Dixon is a double event champion. Dixon is the TRL 100-meter dash champ, winning in 11.86 seconds. He also won the long jump with a leap of 19’73⁄4”.
Trenton Miller won the discus with a toss of 125’1”. Teammate Barry McAnulty was sixth at 111’7”.
Zach Travis placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 127 feet. Seth Sympson tied for fourth in the high jump at 5’4”.
Dixon placed second in the 200-meter dash in 24.4 seconds and was third in the 400-meter dash in 54.20 seconds. Dakota Wiley was fourth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 21.01 seconds and  seventh in the 300 hurdles in 51.62.
Sympson ran third in the 800 meters in 2:20.13. The Eagles’ 4×100-meter relay team of McAnulty, Sam George, Josh Beerbower and Miller was sixth in 53.24 seconds.
