PLEASANTON — Despite small rosters, Crest and Marmaton Valley High’s track teams produced some big results Thursday.
Crest’s Rene Rodriguez, who has dominated pretty much every sprinting event he’s entered, did the same thing at Thursday’s Three Rivers League meet, winning the boys’ 100- and 200-meter dashes. He added a silver medal in the discus and a fifth-place finish in the long jump.
Meanwhile, Marmaton Valley earned gold twice: Chance Stevenson in the 300-meter hurdles, and Trent Johnson in the javelin.
The Wildcat boys finished fourth in TRL standings, while the Lancers took eighth.
On the girls’ side, Marmaton Valley took seventh and Crest eighth.
“For a small squad, I was proud of all our athletes,” Marmaton Valley head coach Russell Plaschka said. “They worked hard and bought into the plan of making sure each athlete was in three or four events at each meet.”
Stevenson added to his medal haul by taking third in the triple jump, fourth in the 110-meter hurdles and fourth in the long jump. Johnson also finished fifth in the discus.
Wyatt Bolinger took second in the javelin and third in the 800 meters. Brady Newman took sixth in the triple jump and Garrett Booth took sixth in the 400 meters.
Casey Allen led Marmaton Valley’s girls with a bronze medal in the 800 meters and fifth in the 3200 meters. Kyla Drake finished third in the triple jump and fifth in the 200 meters. Misty Storrer took fifth in the triple jump.
EVAN GODDERZ added a bronze medal in the javelin for Crest’s boys. Codi Vermillion had a sixth-place finish in the 110 hurdles.
Laurel Godderz earned points in three events for Crest’s girls. She took fourth in the discus, fifth in the shot and sixth in the javelin.
