HARTFORD — Janae Granere picked up Thursday where she left off last season. Teammate Payton Scharff wasn’t too shabby either.

The Wildcats’ dynamic duo teamed up to score 33 in Marmaton Valley’s 39-31 season-opening victory over host Hartford.

The win comes before Marmaton Valley hosts its traditional season-opening tournament starting Tuesday.

The Granere-Scharff show was evident from the outset. Granere had 11 and Scharff 10 by halftime, accounting for 21 of the Wildcats’ 23 points. The Jaguars stayed within shouting distance, trailing 22-22 after three quarters.

But Granere’s marksmanship from the line sealed the win. She drained 5 of 6 charities in the fourth quarter to finish with 21 points. Scharff, meanwhile, was perfect from the stripe to end with 12 points. Madi Lawson, Kaitlyn Drake and Piper Barney each had two points.

Trinity Windle scored 11 and Aubrey Finnerty 10 to pace Hartford.
