High School Softball: Lady Wildcats 21, Lady Indians 5
Marmaton Valley softball started off its regional play with a massive 21-5 win over six-seed St. Paul on Monday at the 2-1A Pittsburg-St. Marys Colgan regional held at Pitt States Bicknell Sports Complex.
St. Paul took its first and only lead with a run in the top of the first. Marmaton Valley scored seven runs in the first and added 11 more in the bottom of the second to take an 18-1 lead.
The Lady Indians nearly prolonged the run-rule in the top of the third by scoring four runs to cut Marmaton Valleys lead to 13 but three runs in the bottom of the third ended the game and gave the Lady Wildcats a win.
Marmaton Valley only recorded four hits (one each for Patricia Outlan, Karlie Stephens, Shay-lee Woods and Isabelle Bigelow) but they were walked 18 times. St. Paul committed four errors.
Stephens earned the win, allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits and four walks. She struck out three.
The Lady Wildcats stole four bases led by two for Outlan.
With the win, the three-seed Lady Wildcats advance on to face two-seed Uniontown at 4:30 p.m. today. A win there will put them in the regional championship versus the winner of five-seed St. Marys Colgan and one-seed Oswego later tonight.
