Wildcat, Eagle girls each win one

MORAN — Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats battled tooth-and-nail with Uniontown High’s Eagles in the opener of Monday’s Three Rivers League doubleheader.
The Wildcats came up with four runs in the fifth and five more in sixth on their way to a 17-10 victory. The Eagles had led 7-1 before the Wildcats got six runs in the second to tie.
Shelby Norman was the winning  pitcher for Marmaton Valley. She walked four and struck out 11. Taylor Shook was the losing pitcher, walking 15, hitting three and striking out four.
Michelle Heskett and Kacie Shadden each had a double for the Wildcats. Kailey Boyd had two singles. Jamee McEndree, Alysha Westhoff and Norman each had a single.
Uniontown was led by Hope Jurgensen’s four singles. Tiffany Poyner and Jessie Camac each had two singles. Shook had an inside-the-park home run. Audrey Dixon, Julia Ayers and Candice Clayton each had a single.
The Wildcats staked out a 6-4 lead after two innings in the second but lost 16-6. Ithaca Marlier got the pitching win for Uniontown, striking out four. Norman took the loss, walking seven and striking out five.
Jurgensen had a triple and two singles and Poyner had a double and two singles. Dixon, Camac and Clayton hit three singles each. Marlier had two singles and Cassie Schwalm had a single.
Heskett had a grand slam for Marmaton Valley and a single. Norman had a triple and had two singles. McEndree and Westhoff hit two singles. Maggie Meiwes hit a single.
