Wildcat and Eagle athletes place at Frontenac; YCHS competes at Eureka

Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats and the Uniontown High Eagles claimed places in many events at the Frontenac High Invitational Thursday.
Yates Center High’s Wildcats had a tough day at Eureka High’s track meet. Yates Center athletes did not register many places, but did turn in several personal-bests.

At Frontenac

Marmaton Valley’s boys finished in a fifth-place tie with Jayhawk-Linn. The Wildcats were paced by personal-best performances by Zach Louk.
Louk won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 6.9 seconds. He was third in the 1600-meter run in 4:49.96.
Zack English took the bronze medal in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 47.01 seconds. Carlos Gonzales was sixth in 47.88. David Harris was sixth in the 100-meter dash in 12.37 seconds.
Chase Dudley placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 38 feet, 51⁄4 inches. Harris was sixth in the long jump at 17’61⁄2”.
Kaleb Stroud was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 38’ 1⁄2”.
Marmaton Valley’s 4×100-meter relay team of Gonzales, Harris, Dudley and English finished fourth in 48.78 seconds. The Wildcat 4×400-meter relay team of Lucas Hamlin, Gonzales, Garrett Booth and English was sixth in 3:56.69.
Mercedes Trollope placed in two events for the MVHS girls. She was third in the long jump with a leap of 14’91⁄2”. Trollope took sixth in the triple jump at 28’91⁄2.
Uniontown’s girls were led by Emily Aikins, who won the long jump with a distance of 15’11”. Aikins finished third in the 100 meters and fourth in the 200 meters.
Abby Dixon placed second in the discus and sixth in the shot put. Amelia Brown took sixth in the javelin. Kelli Wilkinson finished third in the 3200-meter run and fifth in the 1600-meter run.
For the Eagle boys, Trenton Miller earned the gold medal in the discus with a throw of 126’1”. Miller was sixth in the shot put. Montana Beerbower placed sixth in the 3200-meter run.

At Eureka

Yates Center’s Brae Adams finished second in the girls’ discus with a throw of 109’9”. Paige
Steinforth tied for third in the high jump at 4’8” and Cherokee Shaffer was tied for fifth at 4’6”.
Mindi Holloway was fifth in the 100-meter high hurdles in 19.5 seconds. Holloway also placed sixth in the 400-meter dash in 68.0 seconds.
Haley Bedell took sixth in the 300-meter low hurdles in 57.47 seconds. Bedell had a personal-best of 79’10” in the javelin but did not place.
The Wildcat girls’ 4×400-meter relay team of Steinforth, Shaffer, Holloway and Bedell was fifth in 4:51.
Yates Center’s boys had Sam Aguirre run a personal-best 17.4 seconds for second in the 110-meter high hurdles. David Van Hoose made the finals of the 200-meter dash but came up injured.
C.J. Stifler had personal-best in the shot put (38’8”) and javelin (119’) and Aguirre had a personal-best leap of 18’4” in the long jump but did not place in the events.
