HUMBOLDT — Riley Whitworth led wire-to-wire Friday night but not without pressure. Tim VanGotten and Shawn Springs were battling behind him all the way in the B-Mod feature race at Humboldt Speedway.
The battle for the runner-up spot took most of the race between VanGotten and Springs. By the time VanGotten took control of second, he had run out of time to challenge Whitworth for the victory. Springs came across in third followed by Matt Thompson and Dalton Kirk.
David Matlock became Humboldt Speedway’s first repeat winner of the 2011 season. Matlock, who claimed the pure stock feature a week ago, drove his car to victory despite a collision in the race and car body pieces knocked off the right side.
Brandon Rowland ran second in the pure stock race. Michael Aiello finished third. Matt Habiger and Toby Elbe rounded out the top five finishers.
The modified race was much like the B-Mod. Johnny Bone Jr. was out in front and claimed the victory. John Allen and Justin Folk battled for second place most of the race. Allen pulled ahead to be the runner-up with Folk in third. Ryan Whitworth placed fourth and Brian Bolin finished fifth.
Jeremy Wilson spent the 2010 racing season overseas in the armed forces. He made up for lost time with a factory stock feature win Friday.
Derrek Wilson ran second followed by Paul Snyder, Tim Phillips and Ed Muller.
