COLONY — Points were hard to come by for Crest High’s Lady Lancers Thursday evening.
The visiting Jayhawk-Linn High squad held the Lady Lancers scoreless through the first quarter. Crest put together its only extended rally of the contest in the second quarter, but it wasn’t enough in a 44-13 defeat.
“We just couldn’t get much going,” Crest head coach Ben Vaughn said. “I don’t want to make any excuses, but the girls are tired.”
Thursday’s game was the third in four nights for Crest and fifth in eight days.
The Jayhawks led 10-0 before Miranda Golden scored a pair of baskets, Laurel Godderz scored once and Emmalee Seabolt connected in the second period.
Crest was within 18-8 when the Jayhawks ended the second period on an 8-0 run and outscored Crest 14-1 in the third period.
“We continued to fight hard,” Vaughn said.
Golden’s four points led the way for the Lady Lancers, followed by Madison Covey with three and Karlee Hammond, Godderz and Seabolt with two each.
Carly Jackson scored all but two of her game-high 14 points in the second and third quarters to spark the Jayhawks.
The loss wraps up the home portion of Crest’s 2013-14 season.
The Lady Lancers are in Madison on Tuesday and St. Paul Thursday before play begins in the Class 1A, Division II Substate Tournament March 3-8.
