Iola Hugh’s War on 54 Tournament crown led to individual honors for a pair of Mustangs.
Iola’s Landon Weide and Cortland Carson were both named to the 2024 All-Tournament First team.
Carson, a junior averaged 16 points, three rebounds and more than two rebounds and two assists per contest
Weide averaged 13 points, five rebounds, five assists and nearly three steals per contest for Iola, which went 3-0 in tournament action, capped by a 63-44 win Friday over Anderson County.
They were joined on the first team by Crest High’s Ryan Golden, who averaged 19 points and 11 rebounds over the three-game tournament. The Lancers took third, including wins over Humboldt and Marmaton Valley.
Speaking of Humboldt, Colden Cook earned first-team and Sam Hull second-team all-tournament honors for the Cubs, which went 2-1 at War on 54.
Cook averaged 12 points, five rebounds and two steals per contest.
Hull averaged 15 points, 4 rebounds and nearly three steals over the course of the tournament.
Crest’s Rogan Weir earned second-team all tournament honors. He averaged eight points, five rebounds and five assists per game.
Marmaton Valley’s Brayden Lawson also picked up second-team honors, averaging 11 points over the three games.
Crest took third, Marmaton Valley fourth and Humboldt fifth in the tournament’s final standings.
ON THE GIRLS side, Humboldt’s Kenisyn Hottenstein and Shelby Shaughnessy both netted first-team all-tournament recognition for the Lady Cubs, who took second after falling to Anderson County in the championship game.
Shaugnessy averaged 15 points per game and Hottenstein 10, which earned the championship game bid with wins over Iola and St. Paul.
Iola’s Keira Fawson, who averaged 11 points per game, and Alana Mader, who averaged eight points over the three games, each netted second-team honors as well. Iola finished fourth in the tournament, falling to Cherryvale in the third-place game.
Marmaton Valley’s Janae Granere, who on Tuesday reached 1,000 career points in a regular season win over Pleasanton, averaged 18 points per game for the Wildcats at War on 54. Marmaton Valley went 2-1 in the tournament to take fifth.
