Iola High School freshman Addilyn Wacker has her hand raised after winning the Class 4 130-pound bronze medal Saturday in Salina.

Iola High School freshman Addilyn Wacker made school history after becoming the first IHS female to medal at a state tournament.

Wacker took third in the KSHSAA 4A 130-pound weight class with a 9-3 decision over Jefferson West junior Payge Vetsch (41-10).

“I just wanted to go out there and do my best. I am grateful for this opportunity that I get that a lot of people don’t. I was happy that, even if I didn’t place high, I still got to place. That was one of my [goals] this year — try to place at state. I did not expect to get this far.”
