A load of sports action occurred throughout January. There have also been some impressive teams, including the 13-2 Humboldt boys and the 9-5 Crest boys.

Eli Adams – Iola
Adams has been the centerpiece for an Iola team that has averaged 48.9 points per game this season. The senior is currently leading his team offensively, averaging 13.5 points per game, and 202 points scored total this season. He is also shooting a monstrous 44% from the floor.
Adams was instrumental in rallying the Mustangs to victory against Crest after being down by double digits in the War on 54 tournament. The Mustang scored 26 points, hitting eight-of-20 shots from the floor. He also led with 19 points in a win over Osawatomie.
Colden Cook – Humboldt
A sophomore, Cook, has been one of the main reasons his Humboldt squad has an impressive 13-2 record. Cook is second on the team with 14.1 points per game, leads with 2.3 assists per game and is shooting at a 56% mark.
It’s a big jump from his freshman season. Cook is currently averaging 8.9 more points per game and 2.3 additional rebounds per game. His best game this season was when he dropped 26 points in a 69-40 victory over Bluestem on Jan. 30.
Ryan Golden – Crest
Golden has helped his Crest team jump out to a 9-5 start with only six games remaining. The junior impressed in his team’s victory over Oswego on Jan. 27 when he scored a team-high 23 points. He also helped the Lancers dominate Marmaton Valley by scoring 14 points in a 36-34 win on Jan. 20.
The Lancer has been a go-to scoring threat as Crest’s main inside target, towering over most of the other players he encounters.
Aysha Houk – Iola
Houk has been a bright spot for the Iola girls team, leading her team as the lone senior as well as serving as a leader offensively. She was most impressive with her 23 points in a 50-43 victory over Wellsville on Jan. 13.
The senior also tipped off the new year on a high note when she scored 16 points in a 56-22 win at Osawatomie on Friday, Jan. 6. Houk was also named to the War on 54 All-Tournament Second Team.
