UNIONTOWN — Area volleyball teams are hitting the home stretch in style.
Saturday’s Uniontown tournament was a pristine example.
Southern Coffey County High went 5-0 to win the tournament championship.
Crest went 3-1, falling only to the Lady Titans in the championship match.
And while Marmaton Valley went 1-3, the Wildcats saw their day filled with down-to-the-wire matches.
The Lady Titans cruised past Olpe, 25-18 and 25-23; then was taken to the limit before defeating Northeast, 18-25, 25-23 and 26-24; Marmaton Valley, 18-25, 25-17 and 25-17; and Galena, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-13. Southern Coffey County finished off Crest, 25-18 and 25-23, for the title.
The Lady Lancers had an eventful day, defeating Uniontown, 25-17 and 25-13, Kansas City Christian, 25-13 and 25-21; and Central Heights, 15-25, 25-19 and 25-13.
Even in losing against SCC left head coach Abigail Hermreck impressed.
“We played well against a very good team,” she said. “It was fun to watch.”
Crest was without the services of senior Anna Hermreck and junior Kamryn Luedke.
Meanwhile, freshman Karlee Boots hustled back and forth between the gym for volleyball and the rodeo grounds where she also competed Saturday.
Lady Lancers stats for the day:
Kayla Hermreck, 54 kills and six solo blocks. She served 25/30 with 5 aces, had 15 assists and 14 digs.
Senior Lindsey Godderz excelled as Crest’s libero and led the team in receive passing and serving 46/46 with 2 aces. She had 1 kill, 1 assist, and 33 digs. “She passed the ball very well,” said Hermreck.
Junior Brinley McGhee led the team with 37 digs. She served 16/21 with 3 aces and had 3 kills.
