The sun has set on area high school volleyball.
A select group of players has received all-league honors. Sixteen players — at least one from each area high school — received first-team, second-team, or honorable mentions.
Iola High School’s Chloe Sell, a senior, was a second-team Pioneer League performer. Sell had 45 aces and 308 digs.
Humboldt High School had four honorees after a 30-9 season.
Seniors Kirstyn Murrow and Nautianna Goforth were all-league selections. Murrow had 190 kills and 189 digs. Goforth had 248 kills and 178 digs.
Karley Wools and Kenisyn Hottenstein were Tri-League honorable mentions. Hottenstein, a sophomore, had 49 aces and 141 digs. Wools, a junior, led the Cubs with 312 digs. She also had 137 kills.
Three athletes from Marmaton Valley High School garnered Three Rivers League honors. Sophomore Janae Granere was named a unanimous first-team selection. Granere had 76 kills and 58 blocks. Senior Aly Ard was named a second-team selection with 20 aces and 91 kills this season. Tayven Sutton was also a second-team selection. Sutton, a junior, had 74 kills.
Three Crest High School players earned Three Rivers League honors.
Sophomore Kayla Hermreck was named a first-team selection. Hermreck had 384 kills and 196 digs. Junior McKenna Hammond was named to the second team. Hammond had 252 digs and 195 kills this season. Lindsey Godderz received honorable mention. Godderz, a senior, had 199 digs this season.
Two Yates Center High School seniors also earned Three Rivers League honors.
Morgan Collins was named to the first team. Collins had 256 digs and 81 kills this season. “Morgan is a dynamic leader and all-around great volleyball player,” said Yates Center head coach Kari King. “She ran the show and knew who to set and was the motivating, driving force behind this team.”
Hannah Jones took second-team honors. Jones had 392 digs.
Three Southern Coffey County High School juniors were named to Lyon County League all-league teams.
Josie Jones earned first-team honors. Jones had 375 kills and 56 digs. Madeline Spencer received second-team honors. Spencer had 112 kills and 36 aces. Ross Snovelle took honorable mention. Snovelle had 107 kills and 25 aces this season.
“All three of these junior girls are deserving of All-League honors,” said SCC head volleyball coach Jeff True. “They put in a lot of extra time last winter and in summer working on their game and it’s paying off for them.”
