HUMBOLDT — Friday night at the races turned into Sunday afternoon at the races over the weekend. Rain postponed Humboldt Speedway’s normal Friday night racing card so it dealt the action out on Sunday afternoon.
Along with the Vintage cars made their first stop of the season at Humboldt Sunday. Jack Simmons, a racing veteran, claimed first place in the vintage division. His son Keith Simmons was second followed by Joe Martin, John Wilhit and Russ Moyer.
Andy Davis and Roger Oswald won their pure stock heat races nailing down the pole positions in the feature race. Oswald moved to the lead early and stayed there for the vistory.
Jeremy Willard ran second with Mike Aiello placing third. Tony Morris took fourth and Floyd Taggart was fifth.
The battle for the victory in factory stock feature action was between Blake Davis and Brandon Weide. Davis got around Weide with four laps to go and took the checkered flag.
Weide ended up third as Matt Weints went past him in the final laps. Chris Weldon was fourth and Scott Lucke was fifth.
Levi McGowen used the pole position to take the lead and fend off challenges even in a restart for the win in the B-Mod feature. Riley Whitworth pushed Mc-Gowen most of the way but finished third when Jay Lamons Jr. got the jump of Whitworth on a restart.
Scott Collins ran fourth and Nathan Ellison was fifth.
Chris Deaton of Wann, Okla., showed that his heat race win was no fluke. Deaton won the 20-lap modified feature race but was pushed the whole way by Scott Daniels.
Ryan Whitworth shook off his early season bad luck and claimed third place. Gary Langworthy finished fourth and Lucas Conley rounded out the top five.
This Saturday marks the beginning to Humboldt Speedway go-kart racing. Ron and Rhenda Whitworth, track owners, built a go-kart track in the middle of the Speedway track.
On Saturday from 5-8 p.m. will be the go-kart playday. Regular season go-kart races begin May 2.
Regular racing resumes Friday night. Gates open at 6 p.m. with races starting at 8 o’clock.
