It was a rough night for the Yates Center Wildcats after they managed only one run in an 18-1, 13-0 sweep by the Central Heights Vikings.
Although ugly losses on paper, Yates Center held their own early but both contests quickly got away from them in the later innings.
In the opener, Yates Center held Central Heights to just two runs before a four-run third inning busted the contest open. With the momentum, the Vikings added eight more in the fourth inning.
Yates Center responded with an RBI single by freshman outfielder Makenzie Morrison — Yates Center’s only RBI of the day and their only hit in the opener.
Junior pitcher Kinley Morrison took the loss after tallying nine strikeouts over five innings while allowing nine walks and 13 earned runs.
Senior pitcher Avery Eakin took the loss in the finale with five strikeouts over five innings while walking 13 and allowing 13 earned runs. The Wildcats had more hits in the finale with senior shortstop Jaycee Randall, sophomore third baseman Mylin Tidd and junior outfielder Lauren Schultz each getting on base.
The Wildcats hope to bounce Monday at Northeast Monday. First pitches are at 4:30 and 6:40 p.m.
